BASIC ANATOMY OF THE SKIN.......FOR HIJAMAH (WET CUPPING THERAPY)

Remember there are three major overlays of the skin...

EPIDERMIS
DERMIS
SUBCUTIS (HYPERDERMIS)

In treating patients for Hijamah or Wet Cupping Therapy We only extract toxins and bilious blood from the capillaries known as BLOOD STASIS or stagnant blood.
These capillary beds lie just below the epidermis with overlap of the dermis. They are connected by the major blood vessels i.e Arteries and Veins set much deeper than the capillary beds...usually all the remnants of biochemical wastes(toxins) are deposited in this region.
Taking this into account we make incisions not below the epidermis if deeper incisions are made they would be viewed as lacerations.
The consequences of this will not only extract much more blood ...mostly vascular(venous) ....which can make the patient very light headed....due to sudden loss of blood pressure.
But also render them scarred for life with apparent keloid scars.
One of the other major drawbacks is that the patient would feel a lot of discomfort due to excess force being applied to the blade.
This would be completely contradictory to the modality of this noble therapy of Hijamah.

FOCUS AND CARE MUST BE TAKEN AT ALL TIMES!!
